A firsthand account of how meaning emerged from the trenches. What are the characteristics of wars waged in the information age? What makes a war sacred, and what makes it cursed? Why are there no atheists in warzones? Which trials change a man?

This book is the fruit of the reflections of a journalist and information warfare specialist, who has been in the thick of it from the first months of the conflict. This is a story of how The Saviour Not Made by Hands became the main unifying symbol of the SMO, and how units named after Orthodox saints began to appear on the Donetsk front, a brotherhood uniting companies, battalions, regiments and brigades in their desire to return to the roots of Russian warrior traditions.
