О книге
"The Grimké Sisters: Sarah and Angelina Grimké: the First American Women Advocates of / Abolition and Woman's Rights" by Catherine H. Birney is a biography of the noted feminists & abolitionist leaders, based in large measure on their personal papers & letters. The Grimké sisters, were the first nationally-known white American female advocates of abolition of slavery and women's rights. They were speakers, writers, and educators who grew up in a slave-owning family in South Carolina, and in their twenties, became part of Philadelphia's substantial Quaker society. Shortly thereafter, they became deeply involved with the abolitionist movement.
