Maxims and Reflections

"Maxims and Reflections" represents Goethe's fourteen hundred maxims and reflections that reveal some of his deepest thought on art, ethics, literature, and natural science. They also contain his immediate reactions to books, chance encounters, or his administrative work, which he used to note on theatre programs, visiting cards, draft manuscripts, and even bills while working on his numerous projects.
