As one can surmise from the title, this book is an account of the author's experiences living in Italy. The writer, Mrs. G. Gretton, recounted her experiences in Italy for ten years, starting from her first arrival upon the invitation of her uncle, an English merchant at Ancona, the principal seaport of the Roman States on the Adriatic.
