Eleanor Marsh has risen up from the bottom and became an important figure in London society by sheer fascination and audacity. However, on her way up she left some tails behind and they start to catch up to her as some perilous debt collectors are coming for her. Also Mr. Monkwell has found about her involvement in the thievery of some loose diamonds and he blackmails her. Eleanor sees a way to solve her troubles in a marriage to a certain rich man, but the catch is that he has a fiancée. Our heroine is in a tight spot, but there is no scheme or plot she won't resort to.
